Essay On Diversity In America - 846 Words

General Information of the School The population of University of Alabama is 38,563 undergraduates (https://www.ua.edu/about/quickfacts). There are more than 10,000 students affiliated with Greek Life with 66 social Greek Letter Organization, which is 34% of the total population (https://ofsl.sa.ua.edu/). There are 18 sororities on campus, and one is affiliated chapter on campus (https://ofsl.sa.ua.edu/councils/). To rush the sororities potential new members need least 12 or more credit hours at the university (https://ofsl.sa.ua.edu/greek-governing-councils/national-pan-hellenic-council/). Diversity is a topic that the Greek office at The University of Alabama has been working on. In their diversity report shows that with in the total†¦show more content†¦The diversity of the women was 174 white, four black and one white. Also, Alpha Omicron Pi had two white women speak about their sisterhood (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAFCFy5PxNk). Alpha Pi, 2015, showed 425 all white women throughout their 4:13 minute video. The only black person in the video was the black man during the football scenes, and example is at minute 2:29 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KudwS5U9ouA). Pi Beta Phi, 2016, also had similar results with the sorority showing 444 white members in their video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ41sevtlD4). Hair color- Hair color was also looked to see how diverse the sorority video was. Out of the 297 women showed in Alpha Chi Omega, 2015, video 164 where light-haired and 135 women had dark hair. There where no red heads shown in the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn8gu2ATAIg). Alpha Delta Pi had 139 light-haired women, 105 dark hair women, and six red heads focused on in their video. Two of the women who spoke had light hair, and four women who spoke had dark hair. There were no red heads who spoke (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBAYmz6dfqw). In Alpha Omicron Pi, 2017, not every memb er was able to be counted in this video, but 57 had light hair, 58 had dark hair, and three had red hair. Professional Writing at Work Professional writing at work can lead to the success or failure of business, depending on the quality of the writing. As stated by Kolin (2015), for a message to be effective it must address the four keys to writing: identifying the audience, establishing the purpose, formulating the message, and selecting the appropriate style and tone for the message. This paper will address a current work scenario and describe how effective professional writing was utilized. Work Situation A regular function of my job is to create our advertisements for newspapers. Typically, I receive the special offers and promotional pricing near the print deadline, so time is of the essence. I work with two designers, employed through other companies, to assist in the process. Effective writing is necessary to convey the message to the graphic designers to build the advertisement. I send a build email and attach an excel spreadsheet with specific details for each item and promotion, samples of previous layouts for reference, and hand-drawn designs for new styles. The intended audience of the email is our designers. One person functions as the graphic designer and the second person act as the supervisor and as quality control. Achebe’s Things Fall Apart is a novel that is based on one’s rough journey as an African man. Throughout the novel, the reader is shown the struggles an African citizen could have dealt with at the time. However, one detail that the author shows is the ability Okonkwo has to love not just as a parent, but as a man. While reading Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo faces many challenges that have relation to the youth of the community. Though the reader sees Okonkwo as a tough, brave man in the society; deep down Okonkwo cares for children. An example of Okonkwo’s caring attributes would be when he regrets not doing anything while hearing the twins cry in the Evil Forest, his depressed state post-killing Ikemefuna and when the Oracle calls for Ezinma. In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, the reader is introduced to the protagonist of the novel named Okonkwo. Throughout the novel, the reader comes to realize that Okonkwo is obsessed with being a man and wants nothing to do with feminism. However, one characteristic that isn’t characterized under masculine is one’s ability to love. Directions for Future Research: The research findings of this particular research study would be offering various opportunities for the purpose of future research. It has been hoped that despite the limitations, the study findings would be able to indicate directions for additional research study. The key suggestion for the future research crops up from the improvement of the proposed framework for the organizational accomplishment of SMEs. Other future possibilities of research might arise from the study limitations as has been formerly been conversed. A longitudinal study would be enabling a bigger understanding of the process of entrepreneurial along with leadership as it could be measuring the effects of the leadership along with the improvement of the entrepreneurial ventures during certain times. Thus, it can be stated it would be providing key information about the possible variations in the performance as an organization makes its move through the various phases. It is also being recommended that the exploration of the applicability by the future research of the framework of entrepreneurial success within the context of various industries and country, especially in case of another developing nation. The findings of such research would be further testing the applicability theory of John Kotter. Another thing that can be recommended for future research work is considering exploration of the leaders of SME from the perspectives of the managers. A comparative analysis of the efficient leadership between the results accessed from the leaders themselves along with the perception of the employees might manufacture a better understanding of the ways the SMEs could perform which can be further improved or developed. Finally, an examination of the behavior of leadership as the factor stage has the ability to augment and develop a healthier understanding of the factorial possessions of the leadership on the performance of the organizations. In this study, it has been found that certain factors like motivation, communication along with idealized influence have been professed to be accomplished more than some of the other factors by the SME leaders. Therefore, a detailed study at the extent of the factor could offer empirical findings with the implications for detailed leadership that is to be offered for the development if the entrepreneurship within the country.
